Forest Service Rules and Regulations

Chilhowee Recreation Area

Please note: We are required to obey all rules and regulations of the Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger District as stated below.

The lower section of this page contains the general rules for the entire Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger District. If you are camping in the regular camp sites (loops A thru E) you are on your own to pay your fees and work with the campground hosts. We are being restricted and regulated in the field much more than in the past. This is the official Festival site. The Rangers want to make us welcome and to have a great time. However they have set a policy of making no exceptions and treating all visitors to the area alike. Following are rules or restrictions that we must comply with.

  • Limit of 5 people and 2 cars per camp site.

    • The field is reserved for us. There is a fee of $12 per night for each campsite used. We do not have to pay for unused camp sites.

    • The fee for a campsite includes parking for 2 cars. If there are additional cars, they will have to pay for day parking for each day.

    • We encourage you to carpool and double up at the campsites.

    • Please let me know if you plan to camp in the field and I will reserve you a place. If there is a group who want to share a site, let me know all of you. The more people sharing a site, the less the fee will impact each one. Plus we need to fill the sites to have enough for everyone. We need at least three people per site before going to another one and if we need to, we will need five people at as many sites as required.

  • We are not being issued parking passes for the event. PLEASE CARPOOL WHEN POSSIBLE!

    • All non campers will have to pay the day use fee for each day.

    • Any cars over the two included with the site for campers sharing a campsite must pay the day use fee for each day.

  • Any parking not on the pavement will be ticketed. We can do nothing about this. (Or fines for not having a camping or day use parking ticket.)

    • We have been asked to park in the regular parking area above the field first.

    • We are allowed to park along the road on the side of the field and picnic area but NOT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD.

    • There are five and ONLY five parking spaces at the overflow camping area at the end of the road. Do not park off the pavement.

  • ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE NOT ALLOWED.

Developed campground rules and regulations from published sheet at the ranger office:

  • No alcoholic beverages, firearms or fireworks permitted in developed recreation area No fireworks anywhere on the Forest.

  • Quiet time observed in all campgrounds from 10pm to 6am.

  • Campfires must be in designated spot.

  • Dogs must be leashed at all times. Dogs are not permitted at swimming beaches.

  • Camping fees must be paid within 30 minutes of occupying your site

  • Payment of camping fee entitles you to park free at day-use areas where fees are collected. Make sure your tear-off camping slip with date of stay is visible on your dashboard.

  • Tents must be placed on tent pad at campsites. Camping is not permitted outside of the designated camping sites.

  • Mountain bikers and hikers share trails. Be aware of this, respect each other, and watch out for small children.

  • Check the bulletin board for gate hours. Gate is shut and locked each night; opened for emergencies only.

  • Bicycle and pets do not belong in the bathrooms. Do not wash them in the showers.

  • Check bulletin boards for additional rules and regulations.
