Chilhowee Mountain Ride Descriptions
 
Easy : This ride is suitable to those who posses
beginner level skills of bike riding and are in good enough shape to sustain a 1-1 1/2
hour ride. It is approximately 4 miles with gentle climbs and some rocky terrain. You will
ride Azalea to Redleaf and down to Benton Falls. You may hike to the falls
for viewing. You will return on the Benton Falls trail.
Intermediate 1: This ride is suitable for those who
posses good riding skills and are in good enough shape to ride for 2 hours. It is
approximately 7.5 miles. There are short but strenous climbs and rocky sections as well as
water crossings. Ride from the lower parking lot to the upper entrance to
Slickrock, ride both loops exiting on the Lower Slickrock Trail, and
return on Clemmer, taking the Rim Extension Loop, to Benton
Falls to Red Leaf to Arbutus and out through the campground.
Intermediate 2: This ride is suitable for those who
posses good riding skills and are in good enough shape to ride for 2 hours. It is
approximately 9 miles. There are short but strenous climbs and rocky sections as well as
water crossings. Be cautious on Rimrock Trail. There are some high speed downhill
sections as well. You will ride Clear Creek to Rimrock and north on Clemmer to
Benton Falls to the Upper Entrance of Slickrock. Ride the Naked Widow Loop, back
up Clemmer to Benton Falls to Red Leaf to Arbutus and out through the campground.
Difficult 1: This ride is suitable for those of
advanced riding skills and in good enough shape to sustain a 3 hour ride. It contains
strenuous climbs, water crossings, high speed downhills and very rough terrain. It is
approximately 13 miles. You will leave on Azalea to Clear Creek to Rimrock, north on
Clemmer to Benton Falls to the upper entrance of Slickrock. After riding both loops of
Slickrock, you will return on Clemmer to Benton Falls to Red Leaf to
Arbutus and out through the campground.
Difficult +: (From the top for the festival, however
it can be done from the bottom at the parking lot on Hwy 30). This ride is suitable for
those in the best condition and who posses advanced riding skills. You should be in good
enough shape to sustain a 3-4 hour ride. Start from Azalea to Clear Creek
down the mountain. Cut over to Clemmer trail either by the trail or by way of hwy
30. You will go up Clemmer, taking a side trip on Rim Extension, to the
upper entrance to Slickrock, ride both Slickrock loops, exiting on
the Naked Widow Loop, continue up Benton Falls to the parking lot.
It is approximately 18 miles.
