Hey I’m David Meek your 2006 Chattanooga Bicycle Club President. I am honored
that you have confidence in me to represent the club and be a part of the many
benefits it brings you and the community. I have benefited from my membership
over the years and now it is time to return the favor. We will be busy promoting
the sport of cycling with our own nationally recognized 3 State, 3 Mountain
century as well as the growing Sequatchie Valley Century. We will continue to
lobby local governments for safe urban road routes, encourage commuting and
educate beginners and youngsters on safe riding.
This year I am
looking foreword to volunteering and experiencing the other side of cycling
events. If you are not planning on riding these events here is a great
opportunity for you to do some feel good charity work and hang with your friends
at the same time. I still will be getting plenty of riding in, just look at our
riding calendar there are rides going on almost every day of the year. I will be
leading by example, riding and encouraging members to step it up a notch and
ride farther and climb higher than before. There really is a lot to be said for
the slogan made famous by Nike “JUST DO IT”. Most of us still have more upside
potential in our fitness level no matter what our age. We are blessed to live in
a bicycle friendly community (thanks to devoted past & present club members)
with ideal cycling terrain and climate mild enough that there should be no off
season. Let’s not limit our cool weather riding the weekend, put on some extra
layers of clothing, hook up your lights and hit the trails and back roads and
have some fun.
In the words of the late
Freddy Mercury “GET ON YOUR BIKE AND RIDE”
