Let's Make Lookout Mountain the Best Place to Hit the Trails!
Let's make Lookout Mountain the best place to hit the trails!
What would make Lookout prime for mountain biking?
Long-distance trails ?
Parking facilities ?
Camping and cleanup (for bikes and
riders) ?
Technical "free ride"
features for advanced riders ?
Racing ?
Bike festivals and events ?
Trails to beautiful natural features -
bluffs, waterfalls, creeks, caves ?
24x7 public access ?
A recreation plan has been completed for
a 15-mile corridor on Georgia's Lookout Mountain, including Lula Lake Land Trust and
Cloudland Canyon State Park. The plan identifies major opportunities for mountain bike
access and facilities, but we need your support to move from plan to reality.
Lookout Mountain Trails proposal
In partnership with the Cloudland Canyon
State Park and Lula Lake Land Trust, the Chattanooga chapter of the Southern Off-Road
Bicycle Association (SORBA) proposes to develop a network of multi-use trails over the
next 3 years.
This network will provide recreational
activities for a range of users, from casual to hard core, from a brief excursion to a
multi-day adventure. Northwest Georgia boasts an active population of outdoor enthusiasts,
and is already a gateway for hikers and bikers from all over the eastern United States.
Lookout Mountain presents an excellent opportunity to combine existing conservation
efforts with a strong and growing interest in outdoor recreation.
As part of this program, SORBA (a
registered 501c[3] nonprofit organization) will provide volunteers and trail design
expertise to design, build, and maintain the trail system. The chapter will hold regular
events on or adjacent to the trail system, including regional and national bicycle
competitions. The chapter will also engage in advocacy and educational efforts for trail
users and the general public, in support of work already being done at Cloudland Canyon
and Lula Lake.
In order to initiate development of this
trail system, the partners are seeking funding for equipment, materials, and professional
services. Specifically, we are seeking funding for a tool trailer, a trail building
machine, and a work contract with a SORBA-certified trail crew.
Regards, and RSVP !
